Trilobite fossils are older than the dinosaurs! They first made the scene over 500 million years ago. My home state of Ohio has a species of trilobite as our state fossil. It's called Isotelus maximus. They reached lengths of up to 16 inches long. There was an even larger species called Isotelus rex. A 28 inch fossil of one of those currently holds the record as the largest. Trilobites came in all sorts of interesting shapes too.
