Here is your red things in nature fact of the day. The scarlet tanagers are back in Ohio where I live. They fly all the way from northern South America to dense forests in the eastern U.S. The males are bright red during the breeding season and here's something I did NOT know until today. During the non-breeding season, they look a lot more like the females. Both photos are of males The drab coloration of many female birds helps them blend in when they are on their nests, while the bright colors of the breeding males get the ladies' attention in the first place. #redweek #red #birds #scarlettanager #natureclub
