Here is your vernal pool fact of the day. Wood frogs are one of the vernal pool indicator species. They make a call that sounds like a sick duck. Most frogs amplify their calls with a single inflated throat pouch that looks like they're blowing a bubble. Wood frogs have two pouches that inflate on their sides. Wood frogs have a high tolerance for cold and are even found ABOVE the Arctic Circle! They are able to freeze almost solid in the winter and after the first rainy nights they miraculously thaw out and are ready to look for mates. #vernalpools #natureclub #woodfrogs #frogs
