Here is your yellow things in nature fact of the day. Dandelions may be the bane of your existence if you are trying to have a perfectly green lawn, but I leave mine alone. They are beneficial to many pollinators, edible and VERY nutritious. The kid in me still enjoys playing with dandelions. You can make whistles out of their stems, rub the flowers on your hand to "make butter", and what kid doesn't like blowing the seeds all over the place? Each dandelion is actually made up of a mass of tiny florets (individual flowers). Every seed was formed from one floret. The seed heads are sometimes called "clocks" because if you count how many times it takes for you to blow all the seeds away, it will be the same number as the hour of the day. It doesn't always work, but it's fun to try. I also enjoy having kids take a deep breath and blow as many seeds away as they can. Then I get a fun reaction out of them when I tell them that the number of seeds left will be how many children they will have.😁 My dandelion photo isn't nearly as good as the one @Toria posted. Dandelions close up at night and this one was just waking up. #yellow #flowers #dandelions #natureclub
